Fear Factor FHE

A few weeks ago we had Fear Factor Family Home Evening. Scott and I discussed what the game was to the kids and how each of the foods are eaten by many people in different parts of the world. Nothing would make them sick or anything. All the boys were pumped and said they could eat everything. We also told the kids we would pay them $5.00, $3.00, $1.00 to whomever ate the most. Everyone else would receive $0.25 cents for participating.
Scott and I prepared all the food ahead of time and placed them in order from easy (to us) to harder to eat. Each of the boys had a glass of water and a napkin if they needed it, and boy did they!

Let the games begin!!

The very FIRST item to try was a slice of lemon! Lemon! And there were already tears! It was so funny!

A small glass of tomato juice was apparently not very good for the little ones either!!!

More crying. More tears. Lots of dry-heaving.

And with a black olive, Nathan was out of the game!

Hot mustard wasn't a big deal for Jackson, but he didn't seem to like some of the other things...

Will and Papa ate everything! Will won the $5.00. Tyler came in 2nd place and Gavin was 3rd. (You might be wondering about Jackson. He is our pickiest eater and was out shortly after Nathan!!)

It was interesting to see how some boys would down the item fast and another boy wouldn't touch it. Like Vienna Sausage! We learned that looks can be deceiving and how we shouldn't judge anything (or anyone) before we try it (get to know them).

Here is the list of items we offered the boys in the Fear Factor contest:
1. Lemon
2. Tomato Juice
3. Black Olive
4. Vienna Sausage
5. A dot of spicy mustard of their finger
6. Sauerkraut
7. Dates
8. Dried sea weed
9. Clams
10. Sardines

Heart Attack

Tonight for FHE we did a lot of fun stuff! First, we went out to an extra special dinner at A&W where their large cheese burger's were on sale for .84 cents! RIght in my budget! Next we went to 31 Flavors and ate some yummy ice cream. I had two free single scoops and then two coupons for a BOGO. So, we ordered 6 single scoop for $4.00 bucks. Again, right in my budget! On the drive home we began talking about the FHE we were going to do when we arrived home. Valentine's Day is right around the corner and I found this adorbale idea

Marshmallow Guns

Last Monday night we wanted to make marshmallow PVC guns with the boys. But, because it's family home evening night I asked Scott to think of a lesson that would involve the boys making guns. It was a great lesson about the importance of following a plan. The boys had over a friend and their Papa (a non member) was there. Scott tied it all together explaining to the boys that following the plan of salvation and being prepared is key to return to live with our Father in heaven. It was a great lesson and the boys really had a good time putting the PVC guns together.

FHE Time

It's been fun having FHE lately. It seems easier the older the boys get. They all seem to get into the stories and activities more. We went to Scout-O-Rama a few weeks ago and saw these cool wooden swords they had at one of the booths. The line was WAY too long so I took a pic of one and thought I'd incorporate it into a FHE lesson somehow.

Scott found a great story in the scriptures where we all took turns reading and answering questions about Ammon and how he became a servant to the king and watched the herd of animals and when robbers came to steal them he smote off their arms with his sword. Of course we talked more about being obedient and following the teaching of Jesus Christ. But, the boys only remember the cool swords we made. Scott had cut all the wood before the lesson and then the boys put their swords together and nailed them to stay in place.

It was a fun FHE and the boys still play with the swords. I sure have enjoyed all these boys! They are so much fun!

Special FHE

We wanted to do an extra special family home evening tonight. I found these huge, yummy Carmel and chocolate dipped apples that I bought. We went around to our special friends, caroled to them and handed them our Christmas card and one of those delicious apples. It was a lot of fun. The boys only know a few Christmas songs so we were singing the same ones over and over, but it was still fun.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Christmas Family Home Evenings

We do pretty good at weekly Family Home Evenings. (One night a week we sit together as a family sing some songs do a little lesson, activity, treat, and pray together as a family). I found a GREAT company named Hatch Patch Creations who put together awesome FHE packets. I use to buy these (for just $3 bucks!) packets and color cut and laminate them, now I spend $2 bucks more and have them already colored of me! EASY! And very cute. There are hundreds to choose from, but my favorites are the Christmas ones. Last night for FHE our lesson was on the Advent Calendar. It was so fun to do with the boys. This morning I laminated it all and have it hanging on my wall. It will be fun to do every day with the boys.

Last night while I was playing on Facebook (which I LOVE by the way!!) I looked down and saw sweet baby Brigham opening gifts from under the tree! It was so funny, I ran and grabbed my camera first then took the presents aways from him. The gift Tyler got for Nana is hilarious! Scott and I had tears in our eyes we were laughing so hard! Kids are so funny.
